Vintage electronics. Sharp PC-1211, Pocket Computer. 1980.
Retro attitude from the early 1980´s
We got few of these from a long discontinued computer-club of a long gone school.
All these are in variable condition, some are very good, and some ( like the ones in pictures ) are somewhat used condition.
All of the machines have visible signs of use, we opened all of these to inspect the battery space and batteries ( none had batteries, we took that as a good sign ), all had clean Interior, but the "long" screws on the battery space side have been replaced on each device, we guess that has been intetntional, for easier battery change.
We tested few of these with LR44 batteries, and the power was transmitted to the LCD and the device was operational. We did not bother to write any program lines, as there is far more computational powered greetings cards, and more memory capacity is found from the cereal box.
We went thru all these and destroyed those with display, power switch or battery compartment failures preventing use. All of these have scratches and display may have some taint, we took pics of worst displays and typed some kind of text foe a show off.
So what's the use of these devices?
Basically nothing, but i have written few hundred lines of program with this kind of device back in 1983, when i participated the first IT studies of my life, so the nostalgia can be strong. Some sources label these as highly collectible items, and if you place this next to your laptop in the cafe-office, it will open up some discussion.
We sell these as they are, if the device does not start ever more it is just the way of the world, it is impossible to say if these have many miles on them left, it does not mean anything that we we tested these and chose only the best for sale.
The device has sturdy cover, and these have been kept 40 years in warm and dry place.
Onneksi laite on pakattu tukevaan koteloon, ja näitä on säilytetty viimeinen 40v lämpimässä ja valolta suojattuna.
